It is both Heart Health Month and Valentine's - double up on matters of the heart.
One of the most important things to do for a healthy heart is to eat anti-inflammatory foods, such as cruciferous vegetables and dark leafy greens. The other thing to know is that sugar causes a lot of inflammation, which of course is just not healthy, but it is also one of the big culprits for heart disease.
And then...here we are...Valentine's is a popular time for chocolate and sweetness. Now we can actually have sweetness without sugar and that is the point...because we need sweetness. Both from our foods and from our connections; -and not only with others but even more so with our Self.
So consider this... choosing some sweet foods like roasted root vegetables and sweet soups. You can also try the sweet treats that are from whole ingredients like oats, coconut, and raw cacao. You can bake an apple or make a black rice pudding with coconut milk and cinnamon (I just uploaded that recipe). Or one of my favorites which is the raw cacao truffles (also in the blog).
Now for the self-nourishing sweetness... Your heart is all about love and courage. Practice having the courage to love your whole Self, vulnerabilities and all. Start with self-acceptance of where you are now...move on to changing your self-talk to be more supportive and encouraging, and then take a step towards some self-love. If anyone deserves it ..it is YOU.
Happy Heart month!
